The Relaunch of the IH Journal

IHWO is relaunching their IH Journal at the end of April 2023. After 2.5 years, the academic publication is making a return as a forum for debate, a platform for creating new ideas and re-floating old ones, debunking myths and generally generating a sense of adventure for people teaching TEFL or teaching English as a second language.

“We are delighted to see the return of the popular IH Journal,” said Emma Hoyle, Managing Director, IHWO. “Issue 50 is a compelling edition covering a wide range of topics. Christopher has done an excellent job of engaging contributors and putting together a publication that is highly relevant and valuable.”

The first issue, number 50, will cover a range of topics including incorporating AI into Language Education, Project Based Learning and the seldom explored benefits of Teacher Talk Time. Contributors from all over the world will be featured, from Argentina to Latvia, Italy, Ghana and Taiwan. This range of perspectives provides a wealth of knowledge and a diverse range of topics, all ingredients for a great read! Articles are categorised into 7 headers: Teaching & Learning, Practical Matters, In Academia, Young Learners, Around the World, Recommended Reading and Modern Languages.

The news of its return was well received amongst contributors, many of whom were keen to get their articles in the first issue. The April edition will contain 25 articles, as well as a one-off compilation of “Recollections of the IH Journal Editors” to provide the fanfare for this comeback issue.

The publication has been meticulously assembled by the new editor, Christopher Walker. Christopher took his CELTA with IH Krakow and has spent the majority of his teaching career in Poland.

“As an avid reader of the journal, I'm both delighted and honoured to find myself involved in continuing the fine traditions established by the writers and editors that came before me, and I am greatly looking forward to reading the articles that you submit.” Christopher Walker, Editor of the IH Journal.

The relaunch was planned as part of the celebrations for International House’s 70th anniversary. As one of the themes IH is highlighting in the celebrations is Innovation, the return of the journal was a natural step to take. The articles and contributors highlight innovation in the network and the Language Education sector as a whole.

People can sign up to the IH Journal newsletter to receive issue 50 as soon as it’s published.
